The American Connection

The 2 Americans, Bobby Wood and I, helped TSV 1860 Munich(U15) string together their second win in a row.

On Saturday, May 19th 2007, Rosenheim, Germany was where all of the action took place. We (TSV 1860 Munich) took a 1-0 lead early, off a volley, until TSV 1860 Rosenhemi equalized; the score remained 1-1 at haftime.

Bobby Wood, who is fighting an ankle injury, was not suppose to play today, despite the fact we only had 12 men (due to injuries). Unfortunately, one of our fellow TSV 1860 Munich players suffered an injury midway through the first half, forcing Bobby to enter the match.

The second half opened with a TSV 1860 Munich goal, where the ‘American Connection’ took place. I played a ball from midfield to the right corner flag where Bobby recieved the ball. Bobby then turned and crossed it to Philip Steinhart for the goal. We added to the lead minutes later. Rosenheim did strike back in the final minutes of the match to make things interesting at 3-2, but we managed to hold on for our second straight win in a row.

My Experience

When I evaluate my experiences in Europe, I can see how much I have developed as both a soccer player and human being, on and off the field. The European game is so quick! Many coaches say this, but you must know what you are going to do BEFORE you get the ball. Do not be a reactor; dictate what happens on the field. I have learned to play such a smooth game throughout these last six months. I know living with no family may seem intimidating, but the quality of soccer received is first class. The fact that I am living in a new country with a new language has turned me into a young adult and has made me a more responsible human being. So far, in my professional career, I have not felt one bit of regret or sadness!

Despite 1860 Loss, The Americans Strike Once Again

On Saturday, 1860 Munich (U15) fell to Furtenfeldbruck (U17) 5-1. The game started off with a few chances missed by 1860, which reversed in a Furstenfeldbruck goal. Midway through the first half, Kovi Konowiecki recieved a ball from the left side and swung it into the box right to the head of Bobby Wood rsulting in a 1860 goal. The score was then tied 1-1. Although 1860 displayed a good showing, Furstenfeldbruck was just too strong and fast for the youngsters to handle. This resuted in a 5-1 score; two of Furstenfeldbruck’s goals coming in the second half. Once again, the Americans display yet another pair of great games in Furtenfeldbruck.
